NEYVELI: A couple of days after 22 school children died and more than 50 fell ill after consuming midday meals in Bihar, 101 girl students of a government girls' higher secondary school at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu complained of nausea and vomiting when they consumed midday meals on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the girls studying in classes 6 to 9 consumed midday meals served at the school between 1pm and 1.30pm on Thursday. A couple of girls vomited and many others complained of nausea and giddiness after consuming the meals.

The girls were rushed to Neyveli Lignite Corporation hospital where all them were given first aid and kept under observation.

The duty doctors declared that all the students were out of danger. The officials from the departments of education, revenue and police visited the school and made preliminary inquiries.
Chief education officer C Anthonyraj said eggs at the school might have been contaminated. "Two girls vomited immediately after consuming midday meals. The other students also started complaining of nausea and vomiting. All the students were rushed to NLC hospital and given first aid. The students were out of danger but were kept under observation. They will be discharged in the evening," said Anthonyraj.
